*There are more than 100,000 landmines in Sri Lanka, according to de mining sources. There are de mining activities, which are underway in war torn areas in the Island.

32 years old Paraman Sritharan explains how flexible the limbs will be, once they are fixed.The limbs have to be changed every two years. But the farmers change it annually. Because they wear and walk a lot than others according to the authorities at the Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation in Chundikuli.
"I can't imagine that I lost my leg. It's like a dream. That area was cleared. Thereafter I went and setlled in Kalvayal. There was no warning sign for mines. I used to work as a labourer. But it is very difficult for me to get to used to walk with the artificial limb. I am unable to move around on my own. Somebody has to help me. And I don't know how am I going to look after my wife?" queries 25 years old Kanthasamy Sivasuthan.
"My left le was amputated four months ago.After the Jaffna - Kandy Highway A9 was reopened I used to drive a lorry from Jaffna to Colombo and , from Colombo to Jaffna. I owned a lorry. While driving I used to stop and eat, whatever which was available. Later I was diagnosed with diabetics.It became worse, I sold my lorry and bought a trishaw to earn some income to feed the family.Now I can't drive trishaw, because I am feeling very weak.I have five children to take care" says 55 years old Karupaiyah Ramasamy from Kokuvil in Jaffna.The authorities at the Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation say that more diabetic patients come there for treatment than the landmine victims.
