"My left le was amputated four months ago. After the Jaffna - Kandy Highway A9 was reopened I used to drive a lorry from Jaffna to Colombo and , from Colombo to Jaffna. I owned a lorry. While driving I used to stop and eat, whatever which was available. Later I was diagnosed with diabetics. It became worse, I sold my lorry and bought a trishaw to earn some income to feed the family. Now I can't drive trishaw, because I am feeling very weak.I have five children to take care" says 55 years old Karupaiyah Ramasamy from Kokuvil in Jaffna. The authorities at the Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation say that more diabetic patients come there for treatment than the landmine victims.
